www.TalkingWithHeroes.com Overview
Senior Citizen and Military Father Bob Calvert is the Founder and Host of the Talking With Heroes Talk Show www.talkingwithheroes.com and the Editor of our Online News Site www.thankyouforyourservice.us
Bob never served in the military but like many Americans people in his family did. His dad served in WWII on an Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific. His Daughter and Son n Law Served in the Army. His son n law had two deployments to Iraq. His youngest brother enlisted in the Air Force at 18 years old and served for 8 years. A few years ago at 44 he left a successful auto sales career and Re Enlisted into the Army. was deployed to Afghanistan from Ft Benning.
He raised his daughter by himself from the time she was 2 and a half. Ten years ago at 18 years old she surprised him by enlisting in the Army. Her then boyfriend had already enlisted. He had no real personal experience with service in the military and realized he would have to learn how to support her now in the Army.
"A few years later I moved to Ft Riley where they were stationed. I was finding out about military support groups like Soldiers Angels and others. In early 2005 my then Son N Law was deployed to Iraq. Five days after he deployed my daughter gave birth to their first child at Evans Hospital on Ft Carson. About six months after he returned from Iraq he transferred to Ft Carson. He later deployed for 15 months with the 1-8 where they served in Mosul, Iraq. He was recently medically discharged.
In Dec 2005 at the suggestion of a SGT and Special Forces Soldier I started the Talking with Heroes talk show. I would interview military personnel and military support groups via phone and broadcast live on the internet.
In 2006 to 2011 we made 5 trips to Iraq and 3 to Afghanistan. Our brave men and women talked on video about what they do to help the people in Iraq.
We were at the grand opening of a school that opened because of over 10 months of hard work by the Minnesota National Guard and help from families back home, with Military Transition Teams and the Iraqi Army. We were with the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, an Iraqi Air Force General and Iraqis.
We were in Rawah, Iraq before the surge with Marines and Iraqi Police, with USACE and ND National Guard.
We went to a Children’s Hospital, a Water Treatment Plant; we interviewed Iraqis by Falluja and in Eastern Baghdad. In 2007 I was with the 2ID/2BCT from Ft Carson, and back with the School Principal in Habbaniyu Tourist Village in Camp Al Taqaddum.
In April/May 2010 I was in Afghanistan with Ft Carson’s 4BCT 4ID. All those videos and more are on www.youtube.com/bobc9246.
In Aug/Sept 2010 I was back in Iraq this time with Ft Bennings 3HBCT3ID, Ft Carson’s 3BCT4ID, North Dakota National Guard then back over to Afghanistan with the Panjshir Province PRT. All interviews, missions and footage are on our YouTube and Facebook pages.
In July and August 2011 we made another and last trip to Iraq then back over to Afghanistan. The stories of service and dedication and the progress and positive stories will in time be watched by many millions across the country.
These videos are a history of the amazing job in very difficult circumstances that our men and women did. It is the other side of the story.
We have hundreds of videos on www.youtube.com/bobc9246
So far over 160,000 people have watched one or more. Recently we also added filming at a Ft Carson Honor Roll event for a fallen hero. Air Force Veteran G. Mark LaFrancis and I were in Washington, DC late February at an American Legion National Conference. I was one of the keynote speakers.
It was an Honor to have interviewed over 30 of our Nations Veterans and Leaders in the American Legion, Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
They each give a Shout Out to our Troops wherever they are serving around the world. These are very powerful videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAIAZjpSWGk&list=PL1AB44F6127B84AE7
While in DC we also interviewed an Afghanistan Veterans who is now one of the leaders at the US Chamber of Commerce Hiring Our Heroes. www.uschamber.com His interview is at http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF5C75A2C0948C442
In the past 12 months they had about 100 Military Job Fairs around the country and they are planning 400 more.
We are now also putting all of the unedited footage from these trips onto a DVD Book Series: www.talkingwithheroes.info/bobc
The American people are now watching many previously untold progress and positive stories directly from our military personnel, civilians, Iraqis and Afghans that there is in fact progress happening!. We are asking everybody to help get these videos out to other Americans!
In the past 15 months since my last late 2011 trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, three surgeries have slowed me down some. The most recent was shoulder surgery.
However we are finding ways to continue our mission. Dec 6, 2012 I launched a new audio series of interviews on www.blogtalkradio.com/talkingwithheroes1
As of Jan 14, 2013 we have had 6 programs so far including two being call ins live from soldiers in Afghanistan and a moving interview with now retired 34 year army veteran Major General Mark Graham and his wife Carol. They lost two sons in one year – one to suicide and the second to an IED in Iraq.
Now that he is retired they are on a mission to save lives and help as many as they can with PTSD and TBI and more.
Jan 31st I was flown to Edmonds, Washington at the home/office of Michael Reagan with www.fallenheroesproject.org Michael has made portraits of over 3,000 Fallen Heroes for their families at no cost to the families. There were also Gold Star Families. That talk show event is also now on www.youtube.com/bobc9246
In 2013 I am working on raising the funds to send a new Videography Team on our next trip to Afghanistan. Finding the sponsor(s) for these next trips is moving forward.
A few months ago we decided it was time to expand our project. We now are well on the way to launching nationwide a New NETWORK. So far we have three New www.TalkingwithHeroes.com Talk Show Programs with more being planned. Our goal is to have 12-40 New Shows – video and audio – fully operational by the end of 2013.

More Programs are being Planned and another Trip to Afghanistan is also being planned with a New Team of Veterans/Videographers.
Also as part of our fund raising efforts to enable us to go on the road and do Video Talk Show events we have recently launched www.gofundme.com/talkingwithheroes
We Believe it is important for us as Americans to be able to set aside politics and do everything we can to support our troops and their families, our veterans and their families, the wounded and more. It is an Honor to do this!!
