George is a former Naval Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer who dedicated 20 years to the US Navy.   He launched his naval career as an avionics technician and was promoted through the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He received a commission via the Navy's Limited Duty Officer Program.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, Electrical Engineering Technology 1n 1993 from the University of the State of New York.  He enjoys golf, mountain biking, and boating. He resides in Acworth, GA with his wife and two daughters.

Lieutenant Commander James R. Rund

United States Navy Reserve

 

Lieutenant Commander James Rund was born in St. Louis, MO and enlisted in the Navy in 1974.  His first duty station was Fleet Antisubmarine Warfare Training Center San Diego, California.  In 1975 he was given orders to AS Division on USS Vesole (DD-878) home ported in Charleston, South Carolina.  He completed a Mediterranean deployment while assigned to the Vesole.  In 1976 LCDR Rund returned to San Diego to continue training at the antisubmarine warfare base.

 

In 1977, LCDR Rund was assigned to the pre-commissioning crew of a Spruance class destroyer, USS Merrill (DD-976).  LCDR  Rund commissioned the ship, served aboard the Merrill during sea trials and transited through the Panama Canal several times.  The ship was eventually home ported in San Diego, CA and completed operations off the coast of Central America.

 

In 1979 LCDR Rund was selected for a CNO high priority project and assigned to Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, CA.  He completed his active duty career in 1980.  In 1987 he affiliated with the Navy Reserves and was assigned to Fleet Support Training Unit 218 in St. Louis.

 

In October 1988 LCDR Rund reported to Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit (MIUWU) 112, St. Louis, MO.  In February 1991, he was recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm and deployed with MIUWU 112 to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait until June 1991

 

In April 1996, LCDR Rund received a commission and served as First Division Officer for MIUWU 112.  He was later assigned as Subsurface Officer and eventually Communications Officer, where he stayed until July of 2000.  In July of 2000 he reported to Inshore Boat Unit 14 (IBU 14) as the Executive Officer.  LCDR Rund has deployed with IBU 14 for missions in Mombasa, Kenya; Chilpo Beach, South Korea; and Dukayla, Egypt. 

 

In September of 2002 LCDR Rund accepted orders as the Commanding Officer of IBU 14.   He mobilized the unit to active duty for Operation Enduring Freedom and eventually Iraqi Freedom in December 2002.  IBU 14 opened three ports in Kuwait and Iraq, patrolled the KAA waterway between Umm Qasr and Az Zubayr, Iraq, and provided over 4600 hours of safe wartime patrols.  IBU 14 returned from active duty in July 2003.

 

In September 2004, LCDR Rund accepted orders as Executive Officer of Navy Security Force Gaeta, Italy out of Shreveport, LA.   LCDR was selected in September 2005 as Commanding Officer of Navy Security Force NSA Mid-South in Memphis TN and is currently still serving in that capacity.

 

Lieutenant Commander Rund wears the Small Craft Insignia.  He has been awarded the Naval Commendation Medal with three gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with three gold stars, Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, with one bronze star, the meritorious unit commendation, and various other unit and campaign awards.  He has a Masters degree in business from Fontbonne University in St. Louis MO, and a Bachelors degree in computer studies from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. 

 

LCDR Rund resides in Charleston, South Carolina. He has two children Jamee (24) and Joel (22).  LCDR Rund is the Campus President of ECPI College of Technology in North Charleston.

CPT Peter Huggins and 1LT Molly Huggins

 

CPT Peter Huggins is a Blackhawk pilot for the 57th Medical Company (AA) currently stationed in Balad, Iraq. A Washington University graduate, football alum, and San Antonio, TX native, CPT Huggins spent the first four years of his Army career in FT Hood, TX.

 

As a medical platoon leader in the 1st Armored Cavalry Division, he was responsible for the safe, rapid deployment of medics on the battlefield.  After completing flight school in February of 2005, CPT Huggins was stationed at FT Bragg, NC with the Original Dustoff (57th Med).

 

He has spent the last 11 months serving with the 57th in Balad, Iraq in support of Iraqi Freedom. He married 1LT Molly Huggins in April of 2005, whom he met on the very first day of flight school.

 

Molly is also an Army pilot, flying Kiowas for the TN Army National Guard. A Gainesville, GA native, Molly attended Covenant College, playing soccer and simultaneously fulfilling her obligation as an armament technician on the Cobra helicopter. After receiving her degree, she completed Officer Candidate School through the National Guard in 2003 and flight school at FT Rucker in August of 2005.

 

The Huggins’ currently call Fayetteville, NC home and Molly splits the time Pete is away by teaching home-schooled children and commuting to Knoxville, TN for guard duty.

SSG (P) Richard C. Simmons and Ginger  Simmons

 

SSG (P) Richard C. Simmons has just returned from his second tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  A combat flight medic, SSG (P) Simmons served with the 57th Medical Company (AA) aka “The Original Dustoff” April 2003 – June 2004 and deployed again Oct 2005 – Sep 2006. 

 

SSG (P) Simmons also started his military career in the desert, serving in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1989 as an engineer and heavy equipment operator.  After taking a break in service, he returned to active duty in 1998.

 

Richard met his wife Ginger while living in Fort Myers, Florida and married her in May of 1996.  They have four beautiful daughters, Lela-Rose (14), Vada Elizabeth (5), Emma Louise (4), and Jenna Lynne (1).  When she’s not wrangling children, Ginger does extensive volunteer work, including acting as the Family Readiness Group Leader and Treasurer for the 57th Medical Company (AA). 

 

SSG Simmons and CPT Pete Huggins are the co-creators of the ORIGINAL JAVA, a soldier morale, welfare, and recreation espresso and cigar bar located at LSA Anaconda, Balad.
